“A 12th-century monastery among the vineyards of Priorat”
Terra Dominicata occupies a 12th-century Carthusian monastery in Escaladei, birthplace of Priorat wine. Between century-old walls and old vine vineyards, it offers an experience of total immersion in the culture of Catalonia's most prized wine.

Terra Dominicata takes its name from the Latin expression used in the Middle Ages to designate 'lands under a lord's domain'. The hotel is located next to Escaladei, where Carthusian monks founded the first Carthusian monastery on the Iberian Peninsula in the 12th century, introducing the viticulture techniques that would define the legendary terroir of Priorat. The property occupies Mas del Tancat, a historic farmhouse originally inhabited by peasants who worked the land under the monastery's control. In 2016, architect María Vives undertook the rehabilitation project with her siblings, and after more than two years of work, Black Velvet Studio completed the interior design. The hotel opened its doors in 2021 as a 5-star establishment.

Black Velvet Studio, founded by architect and interior designer María Vives along with designer Verónica Cruz, led the interior design project. The project philosophy reflects a vision where comfort and well-being blend harmoniously with the building and its natural surroundings, creating a welcoming and 100% environmentally friendly hotel. The terracotta buildings are flanked by cypresses, with a color palette carefully in tune with local architecture and surrounding mountains. The renovation strategy preserved the building exterior maintaining its aesthetic and historical value while modernizing interiors. Interior design employs warm tones contrasted with black details, integrating family artworks and furniture selected to respect the complex's history.
