The most emblematic building in the complex, La Equitativa Palace, was built between 1887 and 1891 to house the Spanish branch of the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the United States, which wanted a headquarters reminiscent of its iconic Manhattan headquarters. The project was awarded to Spanish architect José Grases Riera, one of the most prestigious of the era. In 1920, the building became the headquarters of Banco Español de Crédito (Banesto), remaining so until 2004. After fifteen years of disuse, seven historic buildings underwent an eight-year meticulous restoration, preserving and reinstalling nearly 3,700 original historic elements, to give life to Spain's first Four Seasons in September 2020.

Estudio Lamela Arquitectos led the restoration of the seven historic buildings, integrating more than 3,700 original elements into the current infrastructure. The guiding criterion was to respect everything with historical or artistic value: the facades of the oldest buildings were preserved and restored, as were skylights, hardware and woodwork. The interiors are the work of an international team of designers: BAMO, BG Architecture, Martin Brudnizki, AvroKO and Luis Bustamante. The iconic clock tower and copper dome of La Equitativa Palace remain an unmistakable landmark in the Madrid landscape.
