“The hotel that invented luxury Costa del Sol”
Marbella Club is the hotel that put Marbella on the luxury tourism map. Founded by Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe in 1954, it preserves the atmosphere of a princely residence amid acres of tropical gardens facing the Mediterranean.

Mediterranean oasis
In 1946, Prince Max von Hohenlohe stopped his Rolls-Royce Phantom in a pine grove along the coast for a picnic, and that casual moment gave birth to a legend. His son, Prince Alfonso, returned in 1947 to purchase Santa Margarita, an old fig and pine estate that would become the family's Mediterranean retreat. In 1954, Alfonso transformed the property into Marbella Club, the first luxury hotel on the Costa del Sol, with 20 original rooms. Service was provided by staff from his castle, giving the experience a formality in an utterly informal setting. Alfonso's aristocratic friends, including the Rothschild, Thyssen and Von Bismarck families, bought surrounding land, and soon the celebrities of the day made Marbella Club their private playground.

Traditional Andalusian architecture defines the resort's timeless appeal, with whitewashed walls and terracotta roofs integrated into the extensive Mediterranean gardens. The hotel has evolved from its rustic origins but preserves the essence of the original estate. The villas and bungalows employ natural materials and traditional craftsmanship: hand-painted tiles, organic linens and refined rattans. The rooms combine contemporary style with retro elements that evoke the hotel's golden age.
