History

The Casa de los Camellos is a building of significant historical value, more than 100 years old, located in the historic center of Agüimes. In ancient times, the building housed a barn and a stable for camels that the traders of the region used to transport raw materials. Dromedaries used to enter through the high doors that still remain, a testimony of its original function. In the early 21st century, the building was carefully restored and converted into a rural hotel, preserving its Canarian colonial architecture while adapting it to offer modern comfort. The transformation respected key architectural elements such as the interior courtyards, Canarian wood floors and ceilings, keeping alive the memory of its commercial past.

Following the line of traditional Canarian architecture, the building stands out for its colonial style that presents a charming contrast between the hardwood and the toasted color of its stone walls. Two interior patios with landscaped gardens embellish the structure, creating transitional spaces between indoors and outdoors, typical of Canarian mansions. The rooms have floors and ceilings of Canarian wood (tea), a characteristic element of the traditional construction of the archipelago. The high ceilings and large windows take advantage of natural light and offer privileged views of the old town, where the bell tower of the church of San Sebastian becomes the absolute protagonist of the panorama. The restoration preserved the original high doors through which the dromedaries used to enter, now converted into the main entrance of the hotel.
