Historic“Where a heroine of Spain was born”
The Palace of Mariana Pineda is the birthplace of the Granada liberal heroine executed in 1831 for embroidering a revolutionary flag. Its Andalusian patio, its coffered ceilings and its location at the foot of the Alhambra recreate the romantic Granada of the 19th century.

Birthplace
Privileged location
The palace was built in 1644 on the historic Carrera del Darro by the aristocratic Pisa family. In this building was born on September 1, 1804 Mariana Pineda Muñoz, who would become a symbol of the liberal struggle against the absolutism of Ferdinand VII. On March 18, 1831, the police broke into her house and found a half-embroidered flag with the motto 'Liberty, Equality and Law'. Condemned to death, she refused to inform on her comrades with the famous phrase: 'Never will an indiscreet word escape my lips'. She was executed by garrotte on May 26, 1831 in the Campo del Triunfo in Granada. Her remains have rested since 1856 in the crypt of the cathedral. Federico García Lorca immortalized her story in the drama 'Mariana Pineda', premiered in 1927.

Construction

The 17th century palace preserves its original structure with a magnificent central courtyard where a pillar with an original heraldic coat of arms stands out: the lower part was carved by Diego de Siloé in the 16th century and the upper part dates back to 1644. The hotel includes a small museum documenting the history of the building and of its illustrious owner. The rooms maintain original elements such as dark wood beams, coffered ceilings and period furnishings, creating an intimate and romantic atmosphere. The location at the entrance to the Albaicín, a World Heritage Site, guarantees privileged views of the Alhambra.
Andalucía
The hotel is on the Carrera del Darro, one of the most beautiful streets in Spain that runs parallel to the Darro River overlooking the Alhambra. The Albaicin, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, begins right here. The Alhambra and the Generalife are within walking distance. The Cathedral and the Royal Chapel with the Catholic Monarchs are nearby. The Mirador de San Nicolas offers the most famous view of Granada. The Plaza Mariana Pineda with its statue and the old Cervantes where Lorca premiered his play in 1929 complete the historical context.
