About the hotel

Nomadiq Pick

The horseback ride through the olive groves at sunset and the chapel for intimate weddings.

Why we love it

  • The dream of Rolf Egli, Rudolf Staab and architect Jesús del Valle that transformed a restaurant project into an Andalusian village with Mudejar architecture in 1985.
  • The hall of white marble columns evokes the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba and water as a constant reminiscent of the palaces of the Alhambra.
  • The chapel with its monumental organ of 1,595 pipes, the most important non-ecclesiastical organ in Spain.
  • The 700 hectares acquired to preserve the exclusivity of the hotel and avoid nearby constructions
  • Illustrious guests who have passed through its rooms: Plácido Domingo, Tom Cruise and King Juan Carlos of Spain.

History

In 1985, Rolf Egli and Rudolf Staab bought an estate in the middle of the Mediterranean forest with the intention of building a restaurant in the Andalusian countryside. They fell in love with the beauty of the landscape with its green hills of holm oaks and olive groves. Then Jesús del Valle, an architect from Granada, arrived and what was to be a luxury restaurant became a 35-room hotel. In 1986 the Hotel La Bobadilla was born, a tribute to the Andalusian and Arabian ideology. It was expanded in 1992 to 62 rooms and in 2006 to 71. The estate grew to 700 hectares to preserve exclusivity. In 2020 it won the award for Best Boutique Hotel in Spain at the World Travel Awards.

The architect Jesús del Valle conceived the hotel as a small Andalusian village with Mudejar architecture. The chapel, with its monumental 1,595-pipe organ, occupies the center next to a plaza with a fountain. The hall of white marble columns evokes the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba. Water, as in the palaces of the Alhambra, is a constant in all the rooms. Each suite is an independent house with a fireplace and terrace, connected by cobblestone alleys. The hotel has been described as a cross between a parador and a white village.

The Surroundings

Andalucía

The hotel is in the heart of Andalusia, between Malaga, Granada, Seville and Cordoba. The Sierra de Loja offers Mediterranean forest scenery with holm oaks and olive groves. Granada with the Alhambra is one hour away. Cordoba with its Mosque-Cathedral is within easy reach. The beaches of the Costa del Sol and Malaga are also within easy reach. The unspoiled environment of 700 hectares guarantees exclusivity and silence.
