History and sea
On December 17, 1920, Fernando Guerrero Strachan presented the mayor with the plans of the building that the Sociedad Príncipe de Asturias had planned to build as a hotel. After five years of construction, the hotel opened in 1926 under the name Hotel Príncipe de Asturias, inaugurated by King Alfonso XIII. With 240 rooms, only 40 with bathrooms, it was the epicenter of Malaga's social life. During the Civil War (1936-1939) it served as a field hospital. It reopened as Hotel Miramar in 1940, beginning its golden age as a refuge for movie stars. It closed in 1967 and in 1987 became the Palace of Justice until 2007. Hoteles Santos acquired it in 2008 and began a comprehensive rehabilitation that culminated in 2016 with the reopening as Gran Hotel Miramar. In 2026 it celebrates its centenary.

Fernando Guerrero Strachan designed a monumental building, luminous and open to the Mediterranean, inspired by the prestigious Riviera Palace in Beausoleil. It is a modernist style building with Art Deco elements, with the main facade facing the bay of Malaga. For the first time, a stately Malaga façade turned towards the sea, challenging the industrial landscape of the coast and conceiving the building to place Malaga on the map of major European tourist destinations. The 2016 refurbishment recovered the original splendor by integrating contemporary luxury standards.
