Galician historical architecture
The hotel is located within the stone walls of an 18th century manor house in the Rias Baixas wine region, not far from Santiago de Compostela. Prior to its rebirth as Casa Beatnik Hotel, the property was home to Antonio López Ferreiro, canon of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, founding member of the Royal Academy of the Galician Language and prominent Galician writer. He was also the man responsible for the rediscovery of the reliquary containing the lost remains of St. James the Greater, patron saint of Spain, in the 19th century. For Casa Beatnik, 'Beatnik is not a style, it's a mentality', invoking figures such as YSL rewriting fashion and Godard revolutionizing cinema.
The 18th-century villa was painted bright pink, and that's just the beginning. The interiors, inspired by Yves Saint Laurent and the cultures of France, Italy and Morocco, are riotously eclectic and brimming with personality. There's plenty of beat spirit in the hotel's nonconformist design, which lands somewhere between Italian maximalism and Moroccan bohemia. Rooms feature individually styled suites and yurts, decorated with handcrafted cement tiles by Popham Design, Antoniolupi bathtubs, furniture by Molteni&C, bedding by Valérie Barkowski, luxurious Beni rugs by Soufiane Zarib, and hand-blown Murano glass chandeliers.
