Historic“A medieval tower on the Camino del Norte”
Villademoros Tower is a 14th century defensive tower on the western Asturian coast, on the Camino de Santiago del Norte. Its stone walls welcome pilgrims and travelers seeking the most authentic Asturias, between pristine beaches and rural villages with time standing still.

Jacobean Route
The Villademoros Tower was owned by the Villademoros family, an Asturian family of ancient lineage, descendants of King Don Pelayo. Its origin dates back to the fifteenth century, although some sources place it in the tenth or eleventh century, and even in the Roman period with rehabilitation in the fourteenth century. Defensive in nature, it seems to have been used for military purposes during the Asturian Monarchy. It was part of a possession that included a manor house and a bakery. Next to the tower is the 18th century Villademoros Palace, a provincial monument. It was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1961 and partially restored in 1987. The tower was in ruins until Manolo Santullano opened it as a hotel in 2007.

It is a prismatic block with a square base measuring 7.85 meters on each side and 13.20 meters high at the highest point. The walls are of ashlar, except in corners and framing of openings, where sandstone ashlar was used. Thanks to the gradual thinning of the walls, the five floors gain interior space from the first to the last. The door is on the second floor, topped by a pointed arch; at its base there are two equidistant brackets that had the function of supporting a drawbridge or a wooden skate. The complex includes the 18th century Villademoros Palace and other buildings.
Asturias
The tower is in Cadavedo, in the municipality of Valdés, on the western Asturian coast. The Camino de Santiago del Norte passes next to the hotel. Unspoiled coastal beaches such as Playa de Cadavedo are nearby. Luarca, the white village of the Costa Verde, is just a few kilometers away. The surroundings are rural Asturian villages with time standing still. The landscape combines cliffs, green meadows and the Cantabrian Sea.
