Historia de Melbourne
Melbourne was founded in 1835 by settlers from Tasmania, led by John Batman and John Pascoe Fawkner. The settlement was established on the banks of the Yarra River, on land traditionally owned by the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin nation.
The Victorian Gold Rush of the 1850s transformed Melbourne into one of the world's largest and wealthiest cities. This period left an indelible mark on the city's architecture, with many grand Victorian-era buildings constructed using the wealth generated from gold.
The city served as Australia's national capital from Federation in 1901 until 1927. The post-war period saw significant immigration, particularly from Europe and Asia, creating Melbourne's multicultural character. The city hosted the 1956 Olympics, marking its emergence on the global stage.
Today, Melbourne is renowned for its cultural diversity, sporting events, coffee culture, and artistic scene. It consistently ranks among the world's most liveable cities, known for its blend of Victorian architecture, modern design, multicultural dining, and vibrant laneways.
