Sagarmatha is the Sherpa name for Everest, 'forehead of the sky.' The park protects the world's highest peak and seven other 8,000-meter mountains, landscapes of creaking glaciers and valleys where yaks graze below Buddhist monasteries. Sherpas have lived here for centuries, and climbers come worldwide to test their limits. It's as close to the sky as you can get.
