Kathmandu Valley
Nepal ·
Description
The Kathmandu Valley is the Himalayas' religious soul. Stupas with Buddha eyes watch from hills, while carved wooden temples accumulate centuries of devotion. Pashupatinath burns with cremations by the sacred river, Boudhanath spins with prayer wheels, and Bhaktapur seems frozen in the 17th century. Earthquakes have struck, but faith rebuilds.
Why It's a World Heritage Site
Kathmandu Valley contains seven monument groups representing the unique fusion of Hinduism and Buddhism. Newari wood and brick architecture is exceptional. The 2015 earthquake caused significant damage.
